Is therapy right for me?

People seek therapy for a variety of different reasons. Some people seek therapy because of a negative experience or event occurring in their lives. This event causes them to have difficulty maintaining emotional balance and struggle with emotional pain. Other’s may seek therapy to address stressors or hassles of daily living that prevent them from feeling accomplished. While others may seek therapy to develop or gain insight into problems causing them to feel “disconnected” to others. Whatever the reason, seeking therapy can feel intimidating and scary; however, it can also be rewarding and freeing. Gaining a different perspective on your problems can assist you in learning how to solve these problems and assist you to live the life you want to live. Therapy has the potential to assist you in accomplishing whatever your goals are and can be a valuable journey into yourself. So, take the chance and invest in yourself today.

How do I know you’re a good fit for me?

Once you’ve decided to start therapy, finding the right therapist can be difficult. You may have a lot of questions or feel apprehensive around starting. Therapy is a shared journey and process, and although we may be working together, your voice is the most important. By using a collaborative approach, we will identify your best life and develop a “road map” on how to get there; however, always remembering you are in the driver’s seat. I may offer recommendations or different perspectives regarding your concerns; however, I do not have the power to tell you what to do. My guarantee to you is that I will listen to you and respect you throughout the process. If you ever feel you are not being heard or respected, please bring it to my attention.

Who do you treat and what is your expertise?

We provide counseling for adults and pre teens/teens who are having difficulty with anxiety and/or stress, feelings of depression, substance use/abuse concerns, intellectual impairment (i.e.; ADHD/Autism/Non verbal learning disorder), and dependent or co-dependent behaviors. We do not treat any children under the age of 11 or couples. Additionally, Advantage Counseling provides professional/life coaching for individuals looking to further their life goals, and sport/performance consultation for anyone wanting to improve their respective arenas. What is sports/performance consultation?

Advantage counseling offers sports/performance consultation for athletes or performance artists (i.e.; dancers/musicians/drama) who are looking to “get an edge” on their competition or just wanting to improve their skills. Sports/performance consultations follow the same structure as individual therapy; however, is more focused on training your mind to achieve your goals, and less on processing your feelings or emotions. Do you take insurance and when is payment due?

Currently we take Blue Cross/Blue Shield, United Behavioral Health, Harvard Pilgrim, and Atena (as of 4/1) insurance plans. Clients are responsible for all co-pays and can be paid either through Venmo or Zelle pay services.

What do you charge per session and what is your cancelation policy?

All fees for services can be found on our services page. We require a 24 hour notice of cancellation for all appointments, or you will be charged for the missed session. Occasional exceptions to this policy can be made in case of emergency; however, consistency is key to making progress toward your goals.

Do you offer a reduced rate or discounts?

All fees for services are set; however, in special cases a reduced rate or discount can be offered.

How long are sessions and how often do we meet?

There is an initial assessment for 60-90 minutes to start therapy; however, typical sessions can last from 30 to 60 minutes depending upon your preference. Weekly sessions are recommended at the beginning of therapy/consultation; however, depending upon availability and schedules bi-weekly is a possibility. It is important to develop momentum at the beginning of therapy, or there is the possibility of “stalling out”. As you start to accomplish your goals, reducing sessions can be discussed. Additionally, all clients are able to utilize a free 15 minute coaching session per week to assist in managing difficult or stressful situations.
